HARRISBURG, PA – In a surprising weekend announcement Governor Wolf has issued an Executive Order banning smoking in cars with passengers under 18 in the vehicle.
Executive Order: 2019-11 – Child Safety Smoking Ban makes smoking in a car with children present a misdemeanor crime. First time offenders will be issued a $500 fine. Second offenses will be referred to the Office of Children, Youth and Families for review and possible removal of minors from the offenders home.
“This is about the welfare of children. If adults cannot make responsible decisions they will face penalties.” said a spokesman from the Governors office.
The Child Safety Smoking Ban which is modeled after a program in the United Kingdom will take effect on October 1st of this year.
